Pressing Left Alt while driving over 10 mph will enable Cruise Control, allowing the vehicle to move forward on its own without holding the accelerator. In the event a vehicle crashes into another vehicle or object, cruise control will be automatically disabled as a safety mechanism.
Seatbelts
To prevent being ejected in a severe crash, you can put on your seatbelt by pressing Z. This only applies to Automobiles.
Engine Control
There will be times when its necessary to turn off the engine in a car. Idling does consume gas, and the engine of your car should be disabled when refueling as well. You can turn off the engine in a car by pressing G. This only applies to Automobiles.
